6 affordable unlimited cell phone plans for seniors

Today, 97% of people in the country own a cell phone, according to Pew Research Center’s 2023 survey on tech adoption trends. The survey also suggests 94% of those over 65 own a cell phone. This increase in phone use and dependence is not surprising, considering the wide-ranging functions the device performs. Most of these tasks, however, require uninterrupted connectivity. To meet this need, phone carriers offer seniors various unlimited cell phone plans.

1. Verizon 55 Plus Unlimited plan

The carrier Verizon is one of the biggest network providers in the country. It offers discounted plans to those 55 and older. For instance, the 55 Plus Unlimited plan costs $62 a month for a single line. Signing up for two lines can cost $84, provided one chooses the auto-pay option. As part of this plan, the customers get Ultra-Wideband 5G service with unlimited 600 kbps mobile hotspot access. This plan does not offer extras, such as streaming services usually available with the conventional Verizon plans. New customers will have no trouble signing up for this plan. Existing senior customers can speak to the customer support agent to get their ongoing plan changed or upgraded to Unlimited 55.

A caveat here is this unlimited cell phone plan is only accessible to seniors in Florida. Seniors in other states can consider opting for plans offered by Visible—another carrier owned by Verizon.

2. Visible’s unlimited plans

This carrier has no age limits for its plans. Seniors can opt for one of the cheapest Visible plans, the regular package, which offers unlimited cell phone data at just $25 per month. This fee includes all charges and taxes. Another option is the Visible+ plan, which costs $45 per month and comes with perks such as international calling and hotspot data. It also offers access to Verizon’s faster 5G service. The carrier also runs a promotional offer, which can reduce the monthly cost of the regular plan to $20 and that of the Visible+ plan to $35. To access the offer, seniors can use the code “Champ” while signing up.

3. AT&T Unlimited 55+ plan

The carrier is also known for offering cheap unlimited cell phone plans for seniors. The AT&T package is also meant for Florida seniors but is more affordable than Verizon’s plan. This Unlimited 55+ plan from AT&T is available for $60 for a single line and just $80 for two lines. It offers 5G access, data, and voice connectivity, even in Mexico and Canada. Existing AT&T senior customers planning to switch to this plan need to visit the AT&T store to verify if they qualify for the deal. Another benefit of opting for AT&T is that the provider offers special discounts to American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) members in Florida.

4. T-Mobile Essentials Choice 55

While T-Mobile has ended up increasing the rate for certain senior-specific plans, the Essentials Choice 55 continues to be a low-cost unlimited option for seniors. With this cell phone plan, seniors can sign up for two lines and get access to unlimited everything (calls, data, and texts) at just $60 a month, i.e., each user pays $30. The carrier does not impose any speed restrictions on data use. It also offers scam protection and 3G mobile hotspot data to subscribers. Additionally, T-Mobile offers access to 5G data at no additional cost. Interested customers can upgrade to the Go5G Plus Plan, which offers two data lines at $100 per month. Here, subscribers get 50 GB of mobile hotspot data, an Apple TV Plus subscription, and more. Additionally, the plan price covers all fees and taxes, making it the final amount a subscriber must pay.

5. Consumer Cellular $50 Unlimited Plan

Consumer Cellular’s plans are typically geared toward older adults, including its unlimited plan for $50 a month. Seniors can enjoy an affordable price without any locked-in contract or hidden fees attached to the carrier’s services. They can save more when getting multiple lines. For instance, two lines cost $65 a month, and three lines cost $80 a month. These plans allow users to turn the service off at will and switch to another service provider without having to pay any penalty fees.

The carrier also offers additional savings to AARP members, giving them a 5% discount and helping them save as much as $30 a year per line. Interested subscribers can also become AARP members at the time of purchase to qualify for the discount. This membership is worth considering if opting for a Consumer Cellular plan, as members get a longer no-risk guarantee period of 45 days. On the other hand, non-members get a refund if they cancel within 30 days of purchase.

6. Google Fi Unlimited Plus plan

Although slightly more expensive, the Google Fi Unlimited Plus plan, priced at $110 a month for two lines, offers unlimited data to seniors. A third line may come with a discount. Google Fi services are functional in more than 200 countries, so its plans are suitable for globe-trotting seniors. The service also offers free calls to over 50 other countries. A caveat here is that this unlimited plan is optimized for Google Pixel phones.
